photobox, chocolate bacon and corndogs =)

At the risk of losing readership, GO GIANTS! =) Anyway, hope everyone had a fun (delicious) superbowl party. I made mini corn dogs, by request, and they're actually really simple. Recipe is below...

But first, some randomness:
ever seen chocolate covered bacon? it's surprisingly really good.

J built me a photobox!! Still have to work out some kinks,
but will make for slightly cooler photos, literally (haha sorry dorky lighting joke)

enormous not super tannin-y grapes at H-Mart in Silver Spring!

corndogs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 5 tablespoons white sugar
  • 1 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  •  freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1-2 tablespoons cornstarch or flour
  • vegetable oil
  • a package of your favorite (ideally beef) dogs
  • 16 skewers (I couldn't find any at the store so I stole wooden stirrers from Starbucks... shhh)
  1. Mix the ingredients in the order they're listed - when you add the flour, don't overmix.
  2. Heat oil in a deep saucepan.
  3. Cut hot dogs in half - if you want little ones, then dry with a paper towel and toss in a tablespoon or two of flour - just to get them really dry so the batter sticks. Skewer.
  4. Roll the hot dogs in the batter.
  5. When the oil is hot enough - if you put a little batter in, it should float and brown in 5-10 seconds - fry till browned, 4-5 minutes. Drain on a rack.
  6.  Serve with mustard!
